Microbes,plants and all non-domestic animal
species that grow normally in an area uninhabited by human beings is
traditionally referred to as wildlife.Wildlife forms a major part of all
ecosystems.Distinct forms of wildlife are scattered in
grasslands, plains, deserts, forest and abdrubptly here and there. In the recent
past wildlife is hugely affected by human activity.Exploiting wildlife for
human benefit is checked only in the recent years, otherwise throughout all this
years human beings have continuously tried to ruin wildlife in many ways. This
in turn has affected the balance in the ecosystem and easy growth of animals.
India as a democratic country is capable of sustaining a wide variety of
wildlife even today. Apart from domestic animals there are many wild animals
available in different parts of the country.
The
bio-reserves,sanctuaries,and wild life parks are reserving about 7.86% of the
mammals,12.6% of the avian,6.2% of the reptiles and last but not the least 6.0%
of the flowering plants.India forms the home of 34 bio diversity hot-spots
covering the western ghats. In order to preserve the thretned animal species
wildlife management becomes essential for the country. The forests forms an
important part of wildlife.India is dominated by the tropical rain forest, dry
and moist deciduous forest, coniferous forest and even thorn forest covering
central Deccan.Trees having herbal remedies like neem covers many parts of the
forest. The history of mass exchange of species goes back to the days of the
collision of peninsular India with the Laurasian landmass. However many of those
species are on the verge of extinction because of climatic change, volcanic
eruption and also by human interference. One of such animal is the most
endangered predator available in India till today known as dhol. Some other
noteworthy endangered species are the Nilgiri Leaf Monkey, the Snow
lepard,Beddome’s toad and many more. Moreover India forms the home of near about
172 endemic animals designated by IUCN.
Some
indigenous species found in India are Sloth Bear, Blackbuck also known as
Indian Antipole, the Blue Bull generally known as ‘neelgai’ and the Chausingha
or Four Horned Antipole. The wildlife species found in India are the tiger,
lion, leopard, jungle cat, caracul and many more forming the cat family. Animals
like a jackal, wolf, red fox, the great Indian dog or Dhol also forms a part of
Indian Wildlife. Mention should also be made of the Black bear , Brown bear,
Sloth bear, the Asiatic Elephant, the Great Indian One Horned Rhino, the
Sambar, Chitol and Hog deers. Besides animals India is also a paradise for bird
lovers. More than 1250 species of birds form an important part of Indian
wildlife. Last but not the least India also forms the home of nearly 20,000
species of insect and 700 species of fishes.
Indian wildlife and its flora and fauna can be found scattered in all
over the country. It ranges from the Trans Himalayas in the far north to the
Islands and Coasts of far south. The extremely arid and semi arid desert
regions are also inhabited by near about 200 to 300 species of birds.
